PERU: Government Announces Investment Plan In Infrastructure

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski has announced a million-dollar investment plan for 28 billion soles over the next two and a half years in infrastructure projects such as roads, ports, airports, dams and housing.

According to the government, these investments would contribute to boost the economy, generate more employment and improve the living conditions of the population.

Kuczynski said that the start-up of the projects would allow boosting the construction sector after a few years of contraction.

The president announced that it is planned to construct more than 7,500 kilometers of roads, 46,000 houses, as well as refurbish drainage systems in cities such as Piura, Chiclayo, Trujillo, and in places like Lircay in Huancavelica.

Marco Island was the first to get hit by the hurricane before it made landfall in Naples. Touching down on Marco Island was the second time the storm made landfall on Florida after battering the Florida Keys earlier in the day.

Monday marks the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that happened in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001. That day 2,977 people were killed as terrorists hijacked commercial airplanes and flew them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City will hold a memorial ceremony Monday morning celebrating the lives of those lost on that day, and the lives lost in the bombing of the Twin Towers on Feb. 23, 1993.

Frequent Twitter users are used to the tweetstorm, which refers to an extended thread of tweets that a user publishes at once. Now, Twitter might be looking into a way to formally make them a part of the social media platform. Matt Navarra, who works as director of social media at The Next Web, posted a screenshot that depicts a tweet thread feature in Twitter’s Android version. In the screenshot, the app can be seen automatically posting an extended tweet and threading it with numbered tags.

A Toronto airline excluded a local family from a flight, pushing them to spend an extra $4000 on tickets, only to take the same flight the next day. Air Canada prevented Shanty Thivakaran, her husband Thiva Maheswaran, their two young boys and Maheswaran's mother from getting on a flight on June 27. The airline manager prevented the family from boarding the flight even though there were eight vacant seats, CBC News reported Sunday.
